The Annual Statistical Report disaggregates by District, Aboriginality, Age, Placement type, Care arrangement and Care category.
The Aboriginal-led Data Sharing: Child Protection and Out-of-home Care Statistics disaggregates by District, Aboriginality, Number of placements, Placement type and Aboriginality of caregiver.
The data for non-Aboriginal children and young people also includes children and young people with Aboriginality status 'not stated' and blank.
Where 'not stated' and blank is recoded as 'Non-Aboriginal.'
In 2017-18 changes were made to OOHC counting rules to better align those with national reporting and to also better reflect the legal status of clients in OOHC. The result as at 30 June 2018 is not directly comparable to historic data previously published. When adjusted to make them comparable, there was a decrease of 27.3% in the number of children and young people in OOHC, compared to 30 June 2017. Compared to 30 June 2016, there was a decrease of 44.5% in the number of children and young people in OOHC as at 30 June 2018.
