Metadata standards and their uses


A metadata standard is a set of guidelines, rules and conventions that define how information about data or objects should structured, described and recorded. Metadata standards ensure consistency and interoperability across different systems and agencies, making it easier to exchange, share and manage information.

ISO/IEC 11179 Metadata Registry Standard ISO/IEC 11179 is an international standard for describing metadata registries that defines the technical, structural and governance requirements for describing the structure of data in a reusable way. AS/NZS ISO 19115.1.2015 Metadata ISO 19115-1:2014 defines the schema required for describing geographic information and services by means of metadata. Dublin Core™ Metadata Element Set The Dublin Core™ Metadata Element Set is a vocabulary of fifteen properties for use in resource description. NSW Government Metadata Sites
